Making default members profile to public instead of private
Hello,
I'm working on my website, and as of now, when you create a new account, your profile is set by default by wix to private, and I would want to make all the profiles at login as public accounts.
I also would like to do this. I dont know if there is already a setting for this but I’d rather members come in with public profiles and be able to change to private if they choose.
Hi, let me explain what happened to private / public profiles.
When you create a custom registration form, your members do not become forum members automatically they are private). In this case, they need to make their profiles public in their profile pages manually. Your members automatically become forum members (they are public) if you set the default registration form only ( like in this example):
Your perceptions are very important to us. Please share with me how do you understand Default / Custom registration forms, the difference between Private - Public profiles and similar. So it will help us a lot to improve terminology and guidelines!
So by customizing the signup form that disable the ability for new members to be public by default when they join? Is there an option for changing this or do we have to use the default sign up form for this?
Hello, thanks for your answer. I wanted to create public profiles so that I can access members account and see their profile, and I've figured out that (using members widget?) I could only see the profiles of the public accounts, which is not the default value when created an account, so that's it
It would really help us to have a way to make the members profiles public by default when we are using a custom login form. There are many of our members that hare struggling with this feature.
It is a matter of giving your users more information once they sign up — such as an automated email that explains to them, with screenshots, etc., how to make their profile public. Or, as their first post they come into your forum.
If Public were set as the default, it would absolutely ruin private forums. That is, it wouldn’t ruin a public forum, if their profiles are set to private from the start, but it would be disastrous for a private forum if profiles are set to public by default.
That said, perhaps the Wix team could create an option relative to whether a forum is already public or private. Having it default to all forums profiles as public would not be a good idea.
Hi, I am so thankful for your comprehensive feedbacks and for letting us understand your perceptions. I already forwarded this discussion to the responsible team. We'll try to rethink registration solutions. Thank you for being so awesome and letting us return the favor✔️
id like to kindly disagree. There is definitely an argument for private forums. For me, and I assume for others, the more comments and traffic on the forum the better. I don’t any extra friction for users or new members to be able to comment. @greta
