I received a lot of feedback from people that were upset that they receive email alerts automatically by default. Is there a way to disable that so people don't have to login to their profile first and do it? I put step by step instructions in the FAQ for my members, but I think it would be better if it didn't default to email alerts. It would be better the other way around, where you have to edit your settings to receive them in my opinion. Thanks!

Please help me - perople are FURIOUS for automatic notification email at EVERY post
Please, tell me that you can do something about this. I just moved a 100 members community to my new wix forum (premium), and today every single member has received 30+ emails: this is embarrasing and could ruin my business. This is totally crazy, I would never expected this thing from a huge reviewed service as WIX in 2020.
.
By the way, right now, I solved the problem by making all my forum categories private and manually adding every single member, because private category don't send email notification. But now I red that you are working on adding email notification to private categories too.
Can you tell me if I would be able to disable private categories notification?
If not, can you tell me when are you expecting to add this feature, so I can move my community to another platform?
thank you in advance
davide
David, this is the same text from a post from 2018 from a user named James? Not sure this is valid.

Yes I used this message because i have the some problem and I am not that gold at
This should not be the case. If the user didn't take action to follow a category user should not get notifications for new posts in that category.
Please check with your users if they are following a category or not. If they didn't follow and still receive notifications then we might have a bug here.
Let us know!
This is how it went: I posted a welcome message, people hit the like button or reply, and suddenly everybody started receiving a lot of email for every single reply, like 20 email in 30 minute even if the post were : "thank you davide!" or stuff like this. We are An scrive community, and i have many old people that cannot set their profile setting on their own before receiving 100 spam email from wix in a day .This is not professional, and to my knowledge there is not any single professional forum that work like this.
Btw, can you tell me when private forum email notifications are going to be implemented? Because making all the categories private is the only work around that I found to stop the email spamming.
Thank you
@Davide Celletti thanks for the clarification. We have to say that this is an expected behaviour. Liking, commenting, replying on a post will make you follow it and thus receive notifications. For sure we need to start grouping those emails or not send notifications for replies made not on your comment, but these improvements will not be out soon.
For now easiest thing your users can do is to unfollow the post:
This is how my email looks today after 3 reply from you. Can you imagine what will happen if I post a pic and 100member ccommunity like or comment it with random cheers? I should just be able to set off automatico email notification for everybody
If you create a post this will not result into a notification if the category is not being followed by all of your community. We don't auto-follow categories for your users.
@Domas Sabockis ok.. bit the first one that reply is going to get 99 notifications email, the second one 98, etc...
Btw I got It, can you just tell me that right now.private forums don't send notification emails, and if they are going to be implemented in the next 30 days?
Thank you very
@Davide Celletti I'm not sure I understand. User that comments on that new post will receive no notifications. Only post creator will receive a notification that a member has commented on his post. Notification logic goes like this:
Follow a category = receive notifications about new posts made in that category. Only new posts, not new comments or replies on those posts.
Follow a post = receive notifications for comments and replies activity on that post.
