When starting my site, I got two options to name it. One was essentially wix.com/mysite and the other was offering to link to an existing site. What happens in the latter? Does it automatically create a redirect from the other site to the Wix site and show www.nathanclement.com—for instance?

Is not that automatic...you need name servers information etc but wix guides you very well.
