Currently we don't support private categories (where only certain members can read the posts) but we do support categories that only admin and moderators can write in them (like the Updates category in this forum).
We've added your feature request for private categories to our wishlist :) Stay tuned!
I would also like to use this function. We used this in our previous forum as a way for moderators and admins to communicate forum needs without notifying the entire staff/user list. It was also a place where a forum topic could be developed without staff/users seeing the WIP prior to completion. Thank you for working on this!
Hi, @atumpan.thetalkingdrums you need only admin & moderators to have access to the category? or you want to select the members that have access to it?
@Refael Laufer We need members, admin, &moderators to be able to read, access, post and comment to one category (out Team category is for sharing rehearsal videos & photos that we don't want the general public to see). Meanwhile we have a lot of audiences that we would like to share the photos that they have taken on another forum category (we may perform at a festival, 5 schools, a conference, and a TV appearance all in one month, so different audience members all the time).
Often we don't recieve photos from the public because they share to their social spaces (and forget to tag us) but they used to share them directly to our old website on a different platform when we had the upload feature.
Currently, we do not direct the public to share because it is not apparent to our group whether the public is limited from being able to see the Team category or if they are limited in posting. We would prefer that they can see the Team header but not click into it and instead upload photos and comments to event categories that are for the general public. In this way we can use the forum as a visual testimonial space for the public as well as a sharespace for dance theatre members.
We held off on using the forum until now for the past 2 years due to the limitations on private and public categories. Currently it is Team oriented and we have had a few glitches there because if the person does not use a familiar email we have no other way to recognize them. For example we may recognize a gmail account but it would help if the request to be a member included the person providing a first and last name.
