I wish to run a structured forum where the major topics are locked down so as to avoid the same thing being raised in multiple places. Hence I wish to be able to upload all my topics under a category from a spreadsheet upload, eg 1 per every one of my products in the online store - which means all visitors get the ability to track all comments about the same thing against the same thread.
I will of course have a members free for all thread or somewhere they can request new 'official' topics, but an efficient way to get started and continue to maintain and add to the list of topics would be greatly appreciated
Hi, @Scherobi, it's nice to meet you! This case is very specific, please correct me if I am wrong - do you want your users to request a new topic before they post so the forum could avoid duplicates?
Hi Greta, no I wish for there to already be in place a 'default started thread' for the forum post for each standard thread (product). for example I have 2000 product lines in my online store, and via my website I'd like for my customers to be able to discuss each of the products without risk of duplicate posts being created but rather sub-points be raised within the comments against the original single post per product.
I do intend my visitors to utiise the search functionality to locate the post in the first instance - yes there will not be any general "open forum posting" to create new topics.
I have also found out by error actually, that manually creating 200 of those posts against an individual forum moderator account I have (which now needs to change), was 1) time consuming and 2) not easily re-producable now that I realise I need to delete that moderator account so as to maintain a single 'branded' representation of my business in my forum (ie a single user with my business logo as their profile picture), due to not being able to change the registering email address of my forum moderator 'branded' account. further suggestion to this "problem" is that I would like to be able to have the ability to "take ownership" of all posts by another Member account that I wish to delete, maybe this should be an an option during the DELETE MEMBER flow.
Anyway, back to the original suggestion, my second problem aside, I have another 1800 product lines still requiring a "standard forum post" and it seems only manual data entry to achieve that ?
what I am asking for is essentially a simple ETL upload from a spreadsheet / csv of pre-populated post topics as 'container or template threads' for that topic. to confirm my forum will not be a free for all where members can create a new post under that chosen and particular category section
Exactly, i wanted something like that... I have a shop selling items, when item created in shop i want to see a checkbox for "create forum topic" the topic will be invisible till i it triggered by me or some automated query?
Auto troubleshooting topic for shop items, in very general..
