Discovering what’s NEW became much easier!

    in Wix Forum Updates

We’re happy to announce the release of the new posts section!

You’ll see this new section underneath a post and underneath your category list. Your visitors will instantly see what's new when they visit your forum and also they don’t have to click back after reading a post because new posts will be waiting at the bottom!

It’s a great addition that will help your members discover new posts effortlessly!

You can choose to hide or show it anytime by heading to the Forum settings “Layout” section and changing the “Show new posts” toggle.

What do you think? We want your feedback, so don’t hesitate to leave it down below!

@Mantas Peldžius you seem to be coming from the viewpoint of a Wix employee or developer, but you are flat out wrong when you say,

In your example, what you have in the "Recent Posts" is that it's actually sorted by the recent activity in the post itself, not how recent the post is.

My "Recents Posts" has always sorted itself out by POSTS, not activity. I don't know where you are getting your information from.

    RE:

Regarding the new addition, it is sorted by the time the post itself was created, not by the activity inside the post

Look at my screenshot to Domas above ... in the "new addition" they are not sorting by "the time of the post itself".

You might want to clear that up for yourself before you communicate that erroneous information to others.

@Mantas Peldžius, I have mine set for "Date posted" and my "Recent Posts" app sorts by "date posted" as expected. I do not have it set to "Last Activity".

@Robin Griggs Wood I see, would it be possible for you to send a link to your website? We will definitely check if everything works as intended and if there isn't a bug somewhere. As always, just trying to discuss and help as much as we can. :) Feel free to do so via mantaspe@wix.com

Thanks, @Mantas Peldžius, I appreciate the offer ... though, my forum is private but, also, the number of times in the past (too many times to count!) that I've had Wix support go into my forum to investigate the myriad problems I've had with Wix, they never delete the accounts they create. It's such bad manners and I'm fed up with inviting support people into my site and having to search what random sign-up email they used so I can clean up the member section.

    @Domas Sabockis re:

It depends how you configure your "Recent Posts Widget".

I checked that area first thing and there was nothing in the settings that I could change. However, you know already that I have that bug in the editor right now, so I'll check back later and see if it has solved.

EDIT: I looked more into what you're trying to say ... nope, it's not happening like that. The "New Posts" are still NOT newest. I've already configured my "Recent Posts" to display by "Date Posted" as in your example screenshot ... the "Recent Post" widget is working as expected.

This NEW thing you've added does NOT show "New Posts" but old ones. Is there a setting for that? I can't find it anywhere.

Here is an example, on your own forum here: ... those are NOT "newest" posts.

You're right. Couple of things: - "Newest Posts" will be renamed to "New Posts" soon, so it's less strict. - Posts filter depending on the category you're in. - Section don't show the post you're currently viewing. That's why you're getting this behaviour in your screenshots above.

I see, @Domas Sabockis. I'm not really sure why the developers thought that was a good idea, since categories are categories for organization and ease of forum use, but do not necessarily reflect current activity. Hence the term "New" is highly inaccurate and creates confusion.

I'll point out that, since you are using English for the labeling of this particular addition, there really is no difference between the terms "new" and "newest". It is a minor semantical difference, but such little difference in meaning ("newest" is merely a superlative of "new").

These options would create far less confusion (for both owners and forum users):

    “Explore Posts”

    “Interesting Posts”

    “Discover Posts”

The latter (Discover) probably being the best option.

In truth, random posts from the category appearing there would probably get more action, as opposed to the "recent posts in the category" idea (since those could remain too static, depending on the activity level of a specific category).

Just a thought (and merely my personal wish ... ;o7)

Thanks for being here and listening to us.

Like much of what Wix offers, nice idea, but not really well thought out.

You are aware that you already have a "Recent Posts" app, right?

    “Newest Posts”? They are not.

In the screenshot provided, check out the dates of the “newest” in this recent forum app addition. Compare them to the “Recent Posts” app.

I’m getting posts from months ago in the “Newest Posts” section!

    ––––––––––

While I actually think it is a great idea to bring up older posts (that members may have missed if they weren't online at the time of the original posting).

Please consider calling them something else.

    Perhaps,

    “Explore Posts”

    “Interesting Posts”

    “Discover Posts”

Or just give us the option to name that area what we want.

Thank you for the response! It depends how you configure your "Recent Posts Widget". If you configure it like this:

Then you will have the same posts in both. What you're having right now is "Last Activity" in the posts. Why have two similar components? "Recent Posts Widget" main value is that it can be configured and placed and anywhere on the site.
