We are excited to announce that now you can create private categories!
You can change permissions and give category access to individual members. Or, use roles and badges to give access to various sets of members.
Private categories can improve your forum goals in many ways:
Discuss specific topics with just the members you choose.
Empower members to post comfortably, in a space where they know their audience.
Share files and exclusive content with specific users.
Hide discussions that might not engage your whole audience.
If you’re a business, create separate categories for stakeholders and different clients.
Improve the communication of internal staff - you could use a private category like a private message board, for different departments.
P. S. We’ve just embarked on our mission to integrate private categories with Paid Plans, to make it easy to charge for premium forum memberships.

Create private categories in both ways:
in the Live /Preview mode or forum settings.
Pick/manage the members, roles or badges
in the Live /Preview mode only.
